Super Speed Reading – Deep Understanding – Long-Term Memory is a course applying hypnosis, self-hypnosis, deep relaxation, visual focus, image-based memorization, association, mind mapping, and methods to activate the brain's learning capacity.

At the Super Speed Reading – Deep Understanding – Long-Term Memory course held in Hanoi from July 3–5, 2015, many students noted clear improvements in reading speed and memorization ability within the class itself. After just two practice sessions in one session, each about 30 minutes, many students' reading speeds increased 1.5 to 2 times; some cases increased about 3 times compared to before applying Expert Nguyen Manh Quan's methods. Notably, many older students also recorded reading speed increases of about double after the practice process.

The course not only aims to "read very fast" but also helps students learn how to master their learning state: relax the body, focus the mind, control eye movement, reduce excessive subvocalization, grasp main ideas faster, remember through visualization, and retrieve information better after reading.

Super speed reading is not superficial skimming

Super speed reading properly understood is not glancing very quickly and missing content. Super speed reading is the ability to control reading speed according to one's goals.

When surveying material, learners can read quickly to grasp layout, headings, main ideas, and information structure. When encountering important, difficult, or highly specialized material, learners need to slow down, read deeply, analyze, and self-check comprehension. When needing to remember, learners need to know how to convert information into images, phrase groups, diagrams, stories, or association systems.

Therefore, the Super Speed Reading – Deep Understanding – Long-Term Memory course does not only train the eyes to read faster but also trains the brain to receive information more intelligently.

Reading speed improvement results achieved in class

Many students shared their results immediately after practice.

Mr. Le Xuan Dinh shared that before practice, he read a little over 200 words per minute. After practice, his reading speed increased to nearly 400 words per minute, nearly double.

Mr. Tran Trung Kien said initially he read over 300 words per minute, then increased to over 700 words per minute.

Nguyen Tran Vu recorded an initial reading speed of 300 words per minute, then increased to 600 words per minute, and then continued to 800 words per minute.

Tang The Thinh shared that his reading speed increased about 2.5 to 3 times: from nearly 400 words per minute to 1,200–1,300 words per minute.

Le Quoc Khanh recorded a reading speed increase of 1.5 times, from 260 to 400 words per minute.

Tran Minh Ngoc shared that before practice, her average reading speed was 460 words per minute; after applying the method, she read 1,200 words per minute.

Le Khanh Linh said her reading speed doubled, from 300 to 600 words per minute; in the memorization section, she remembered 30/30 words right from the start because her mother had learned Mr. Quan's method and taught her at home.

Mr. Luong Thanh Binh recorded an initial reading speed of 360 words per minute, then increased to 1,350 words per minute. For memorization, initially he remembered 25/30 words; after applying the new method, he felt his memory was more stable and less affected by forgetting.

Nguyen Phan Quan shared that his reading speed doubled, from 350 to 700 words per minute.

Mr. Pham Quoc Su, a student who had participated in previous courses, said his reading speed increased from over 500 words per minute to 1,500 words per minute, triple; his memorization ability increased from about 13–14/30 words to a maximum of 30/30 words.

Students, young people, and older adults can all practice

A special feature of the class was that students came from many different ages, professions, and backgrounds. There were elementary students, secondary students, high school students, university students, working adults, businesspeople, engineers, officials, older adults, and those learning foreign languages or needing to process many documents at work.

Nguyen Huong Giang, a 6th-grade student at Amsterdam School, shared that she read 1,400 words per minute. Before learning this method, she read about 400 words per minute. She also applied memorization skills to learn new English vocabulary and memorize lessons in class.

Nguyen Ngoc Dung said his reading speed increased from 400 words per minute to 1,300 words per minute; memorization ability increased from 15 words to 28/30 words.

Do Tra My shared her reading speed before the course was 270 words per minute; after 1 hour of being guided through the method, her reading ability increased to 835 words per minute.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, a business owner, recorded an initial reading speed of 196 words per minute; by the third test, it increased to 470 words per minute, more than double.

Ms. Trinh Ngoc Anh shared her reading speed increased from 240 to 490 words per minute, double.

Vu Thuy Duong recorded reading speed increasing from 284 to 800 words per minute.

Ms. Le Thi Doanh, working at the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, humorously shared that her progress was "very little," her reading speed only doubled, from 310 to 650 words per minute.

When old beliefs about reading and memory ability are changed

Many students used to think that reading speed and memory were fixed abilities. They believed that if they read slowly, they would always read slowly; if their memory was poor, they would always struggle to remember. But after practicing, many realized that reading and memory ability can change with the right method.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang shared that previously he also thought reading and memory ability were fixed in the brain. After a few minutes of practice, his reading speed increased 3 times: from half a page, by the third test he had increased to nearly 2 pages per minute.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Le recorded reading speed increasing from 350 to 900 words per minute, nearly triple.

Mr. Vu Xuan Cong shared his initial reading speed was 200 words per minute; after learning the method, it increased to 575 words per minute, about 2.5 times. He also applied Mr. Quan's memorization method and several days later could still remember the correct order.

Mr. Trinh Minh Tuan shared that before applying the method, his reading speed was 320–340 words per minute; after learning, it increased to 550–560 words per minute.

Ms. Vu Thi Mai Lan, a bridge engineer, said initially her reading ability was only about 300 words per minute, then increased to over 700 words per minute. Not only that, she could accurately remember 30 words within minutes and still remembered them after a full day of class.

Ms. Do Thi Thu Van from Da Nang shared that before the course, her reading ability was 430 words per minute. After being guided through two practice sessions, her reading speed reached 1,048 words per minute.

Learning to read fast, remember long, and reduce stress in studying

Ms. Chu Thi Hieu, originally from Lang Son province, currently living in South Korea, flew from South Korea just to attend the class. She wanted to read fast and remember long to learn Korean and English, and also to help her children have better learning methods to avoid stress. After the first practice session, her reading speed increased from 200 to over 400 words per minute.

Mr. Tran Minh Tien, a real estate businessman in Hanoi, practiced reading with a difficult Han-Nom book but still increased his speed from 170 to 630 words per minute after the first practice session.

Nguyen Hai Son, an 11th-grade student in Ho Chi Minh City, shared that the first time he read over 600 words per minute, after 2 practice sessions his reading speed increased to 1,800 words per minute. In class, he was also impressed with the lecture on psychology across generations and hoped his parents could attend to understand their children better.

Mr. Nguyen Van Huy shared that before practice, his reading speed was 255 words per minute; after the first skill practice session, it increased to 568 words per minute. His initial memorization ability was 7/20 words; after practice, it increased to 19/30. What he found most important was that the course provided skills to train the brain.

Fast reading must go hand in hand with memorization ability

Reading speed is only one part of the learning process. What is more important is what the learner understands, remembers, and can do with the information after reading.

In the course, students were guided in memorization methods using images, associations, stories, locations, "mailbox" or "letterbox" memory systems, combining both brain hemispheres, and systematic information retrieval.

When information is turned into images, the brain stores it more easily. When images are linked into a story, the order of information is better preserved. When learners know how to recall information, memory is no longer a matter of chance but becomes a trainable skill.

Ms. Hoang Lan – better knowledge retention thanks to the method

Ms. Hoang Lan, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared that the course was especially valuable and extremely beneficial. She learned methods for memorizing information, retaining knowledge, actively changing and mastering her own thoughts and aspirations.

As a first-year student, she needed clear direction for her future and needed to understand the new learning environment. Through the course, she learned how to think, organize knowledge, and use memorization methods to absorb lessons faster and better.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hong – speed increased without intentionally reading fast

Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hong, Doctor of Psychology, Head of Applied Psychology Department, Faculty of Educational Psychology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, shared that the first time she tested before learning the method, she read 330 words per minute. After the first day of practice, although not intentionally reading fast, she still reached 500 words per minute; later she reached 600 words per minute.

She consciously read calmly to remember knowledge, not chasing speed to "show off," yet her reading speed still increased very quickly. This shows that with the right method, speed can improve naturally without putting pressure on the eyes and brain.

Reading speed increased from 450 to 900 words per minute

One student shared that during practice, he noticed his eyes no longer stopped or regressed to previously read sections. When reading, he felt lighter, without the visual pressure as before. His eyes glided naturally over the section being read.

Before learning the method, his average reading speed was 450 words per minute. After testing sessions, his reading speed doubled, reaching about 900 words per minute.

Ms. Khanh Ly – unique reading and memorization method

Ms. Khanh Ly, a student at Phuong Dong University, shared that this was truly an extremely unique speed reading method. Before practice, her reading speed was only about 200 words per minute. After 2 days of practice, her reading speed tripled, reaching about 600 words per minute.

Not only did she read faster, but she also felt that the memorization method made learning lighter and more proactive.

Phan Minh Phuong – reading faster, learning happier, body lighter

Phan Minh Phuong, an 11th-grade student at Doan Thi Diem School, Hanoi, shared that before attending the course, she was in a depressed state, her body was tired, sluggish, and she just wanted to sleep. After attending the course, she used self-hypnosis methods to stabilize her body, used stress-cutting techniques to reduce the things that made her uncomfortable at school and at home.

She not only read faster but also found going to school more enjoyable. She also shared that after the course, she naturally liked learning math more, learned other subjects more easily, and no longer had to attend extra tutoring as before.

This case shows that the course not only affected reading skills but also helped the student change her learning state, emotions, and beliefs about herself. However, results such as weight loss, mood improvement, or changes in learning ability should be understood as personal experiences, not general guarantees for every student.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Hong – reading speed more than doubled

Mr. Nguyen Kim Hong, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, shared that in his position, he needs to read a great deal, so he very much needs fast reading ability. Initially, he did not believe it, because before he had attended many speed reading courses and bought many guidebooks but still could not improve his reading speed.

After directly participating in the seminar, he acknowledged that the methods practiced in class were very special. His reading speed more than doubled compared to before practice. With work requiring processing many documents, reading twice as fast helped reduce stress and saved a great deal of time.

Ms. Thu Hien – initially did not believe, then was impressed

Ms. Thu Hien, a student at University of Commerce, learned about the class through a friend's recommendation. Initially, she did not believe the stories told about Mr. Quan and the class. Even when she came to class and watched other students experience it, she was still not completely convinced.

But when she herself experienced it, she felt admiration and pride for having attended the course. From skepticism to direct verification, she realized that some things can only be truly understood through one's own practice.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet – memorizing hundreds of pages of textbooks

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared that when she first entered the class, hearing the Teacher say everyone's reading and learning speed would at least double, she completely did not believe it. But after being exposed to the method, she found the results truly surprising.

Before the course, she read about 170 words per minute; by the final test, her reading speed had tripled. Previously, she had poor memorization, usually only remembering visual parts. After learning the method combining both brain hemispheres, combining language and images, using the "letterbox" memory system, she learned how to remember lessons better.

There were textbooks hundreds of pages long; after reading them, she could remember the general ideas and main points thanks to applying the learned method.

Master's degree holder Ly Thanh Yen – reading 4 times faster

Master's degree holder Ly Thanh Yen, Hanoi Stock Exchange, shared that the course results amazed her. Her initial reading speed was 600 words per minute. After 4 practice sessions, her reading speed increased to nearly 2,000 words per minute.

After finishing the course, she continued practicing about 3 times per week, 15 minutes each time. Less than 3 months later, her reading speed reached about 2,600 words per minute. She described her reading method as like "taking photos," her eyes gliding over about 3–4 lines each time, no longer reading word by word, line by line as before.

Besides speed reading techniques, she also used daily body stabilization and relaxation methods. For her, the methods learned not only served learning but were also very necessary in daily life.

Ms. Le Thu – reading speed increased about 10 times

Ms. Le Thu, a student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared that everything she learned was very beneficial for herself, especially as she was a final-year student about to graduate and needing many skills to adapt to independent living.

In the course, she trained her memory, stabilized both brain hemispheres, helping her brain work more quickly and stably. Before attending, her average reading speed was 110 words per minute. After 3 days of practice, her reading speed increased to about 1,120 words per minute.

Mr. Ho Huy Thai – understanding the brain's operating mechanism

Mr. Ho Huy Thai, FPT Corporation, shared that he was surprised because his reading and memorization ability increased noticeably. What made him happier was that he understood the working capacity of the human brain, the operating mechanism of the brain and body.

According to him, this understanding was like a key opening many directions in life. The methods for training both brain hemispheres, cutting stress, relaxing body and mind could be applied daily to study and work more effectively.

Mr. Phan Quang Loc – from 300 to 900 words per minute

Mr. Phan Quang Loc, a student at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared that because he was a humanities student, he had to read many books and newspapers daily and thought he read quite quickly. But after more than 2 days of practice, his reading speed tripled, from 300 to over 900 words per minute.

Not only reading speed, but information retention also increased noticeably. He believed the course was very necessary and beneficial, helping students read faster, remember better, become more confident, and save time for other work and passions.

Mr. Quoc Khanh – a special and unique course

Mr. Quoc Khanh, a student at Banking Academy, shared that this was the most special and unique course in Vietnam he had ever attended. He learned how to use movements to balance and stabilize both brain hemispheres, helping his body become healthier and his mind sharper.

According to him, each person has certain latent abilities; the important thing is whether one knows how to use and develop those abilities.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy – learning from internal motivation

Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy, a second-year student at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, learned about the course through her English teacher's recommendation. On the very first day, she felt the course exceeded her expectations.

Through the methods and knowledge conveyed, for the first time she felt confident in her own abilities. She learned speed reading methods, fast memorization, stabilizing both brain hemispheres, and more importantly, changed her view of learning.

Previously, she often studied to cope: coping with teachers, family, grades, and surrounding pressure. After the course, she wanted to learn from internal motivation, to learn because she loved it and for her own future.

Master's degree holder Ly Hung Son – reading speed increased nearly 9 times

Master's degree holder Ly Hung Son, a specialist in the Technology division of Bao Viet Group, shared that previously he was always self-conscious about his memory ability. He spent a lot of time reading, researching, and memorizing documents; he often had to reread important information multiple times to ensure he did not miss anything.

After the course, he had a tremendous change. Before learning, his reading speed was about 350 words per minute. After 3 days of the course, his speed increased to about 1,400 words per minute. One and a half years later, although not practicing speed reading further and only practicing body relaxation, when auditing the course again, his reading speed increased to over 2,200 words per minute. When choosing a favorite book to test again, his reading speed reached over 3,000 words per minute.

For him, the biggest change was the feeling of mastering the material. Previously, looking at a 700–800 page book, he felt overwhelmed. After the course, he felt a desire to master the information in that book.

Self-hypnosis and the learning state

A special feature of the course was combining reading methods with mind-body state. Learners were not only guided on "how the eyes should look" but also guided to relax the body, stabilize breathing, focus the mind, and use positive suggestions to bring the brain into a better state for receiving information.

When the body is tense, neck and shoulders tight, breathing shallow, and mind distracted, reading becomes heavy. Learners tend to reread, forget easily, get sleepy easily, and lose patience easily. When the body is relaxed, breathing more regular, eyes lighter, and reading goals clearer, the process of receiving information can become more flexible.

Self-hypnosis in learning is used as a technique to bring oneself into a focused, relaxed, and learning-ready state. Learners can use positive suggestion phrases such as: "I read more focused," "I understand faster," "I remember more easily," "I learn with lightness and interest."

Fast reading, long memory, and modern life

In the age of information overload, the ability to read and process documents is an important skill. Students need to read textbooks, exam preparation materials, reference books. University students need to read textbooks, research papers, specialized materials. Working adults need to read reports, emails, contracts, files, documents, professional books. Managers need to grasp information quickly to make decisions.

If one reads slowly, forgets quickly, and loses focus easily, learning becomes stressful. If one knows how to read purposefully, grasp structure, remember through methods, and retrieve information, studying and working can become lighter.

Super Speed Reading – Deep Understanding – Long-Term Memory is therefore not only a reading skills course but a course that helps learners change how they use their brain in learning and work.

The greatest value is knowing how to self-practice

In-class results are the starting point. The long-term value lies in students continuing to practice after the course. Like exercising, learning a foreign language, or playing music, speed reading and memorization skills need regular practice.

Learners need to continue reading books, measuring speed, training eyes, training memory, using images, self-testing, and applying to real materials in study and work. When skills are repeated enough times, the brain forms new habits: reading in phrase groups, fewer regressions, less subvocalization, faster structure recognition, and more active memorization.

Practice note

The results in this article are personal feedback and experiences of students in a specific class context. Results may vary depending on the individual, initial reading foundation, type of material, concentration ability, background knowledge, health status, measurement method, and level of post-course practice.

Fast reading must go hand in hand with deep understanding and long-term memory. For difficult material, specialized material, legal texts, medical texts, scientific texts, or content requiring deep analysis, readers still need to slow down, take notes, check comprehension, and review. The goal of the course is to help students read more effectively, not to create the illusion that every text can be read extremely fast while maintaining full comprehension.
