Depression Support That Helped Me Reclaim My Life
From depression and chronic insomnia to rediscovering happiness and a renewed sense of well-being.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hanh is a student who shared very moving reflections after participating in the course of Hypnosis Expert Nguyen Manh Quan. For her, it was not just an ordinary course, but a long journey from fatigue, disappointment, insomnia, and depression to the feeling of being reborn, becoming happy again, and touching happiness from within.
Before attending the course, she had suffered from insomnia and depression for six years. Throughout that time, she sought treatment in many places, including a psychiatric hospital. Anywhere she heard might help her, she went to with the hope that this time she would recover, this time she would feel lighter, this time she would find a way.
But every time she hoped, she was disappointed. She shared that the journey of seeking treatment left her very tired and disappointed, because after each treatment, she did not feel that her condition had truly improved. For her, many previous experiences were simply "money lost, more problems gained"; her belief gradually faded, while sadness and helplessness grew heavier.
Six years of insomnia and depression
Depression is not just sadness. Depression can cause a person to lose interest in life, lose energy, have disturbed sleep, eat irregularly, have difficulty concentrating, feel hopeless, blame themselves, and no longer experience joy. NIMH describes depression as an illness that can cause severe symptoms affecting how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities such as sleeping, eating, or working. (National Institute of Mental Health) [https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/depression]
For Ms. Thu Hanh, prolonged insomnia and depression not only made her body tired but also darkened her life. When sleep would not come, night became a fear. When her spirit sank, daytime also lost its color. After trying many places without seeing results, patients easily fall into a feeling of loneliness, not knowing what to believe anymore.
Sleep is an important foundation of mind-body health. The CDC states that getting enough quality sleep is essential for health and emotional stability; adults aged 18–60 typically need 7 or more hours of sleep per night. (CDC) [https://www.cdc.gov/sleep/about/index.html]
Before the course: not immediately believing, needed to research very thoroughly
Before attending the course, Ms. Thu Hanh did not believe immediately. She was a cautious person. She thought that before doing anything, she needed a clear purpose and basis. Therefore, she went online to research a great deal of information about Expert Nguyen Manh Quan, the Center, the courses, and students who had previously attended.
Even though she read much positive information, she still did not fully believe. She continued calling witnesses who had been helped by Teacher Quan, as well as those who had attended the course, to ask directly what results they had received. The number of people she asked was no less than thirty or forty.
She said frankly that she was very afraid of being deceived. After so many disappointments, that caution is understandable. When a person has suffered from illness for many years, they not only need a method; they need a reason to believe, a feeling of safety, and a hope that will not hurt them again.
The first day of class: tears flowed spontaneously on the way home
After the first day sitting in Teacher Quan's class, on the way home driving her motorbike, it was already very dark. But on the way home, tears spontaneously flowed from her eyes.
That was not tears of despair. It was the tears of someone who suddenly felt the light inside her heart returning. She drove and sang at the same time. She felt very happy, very joyful. She described that feeling as happiness inside her bursting forth, bursting forth in tears.
There are moments of transformation that cannot be measured in words. After many years of insomnia, depression, seeking treatment everywhere, and disappointment, just the feeling of genuine happiness returning was enough to make a person burst into tears. That is the feeling of "I can still be happy," "I am still alive," "I have not lost all hope."
After the second day and the final day: results beyond measure
After the second day and the final day of the course, Ms. Thu Hanh felt that what she had received could no longer be measured. She said that her words were not enough to express it.
She felt very happy, very joyful. She had the feeling that her heart was fluttering in her chest. When the course ended, she knew that her life, her happiness had truly been reborn.
For someone who had lived with depression for many years, the word "reborn" is not just a beautiful phrase. It is a very real feeling when the nervous system is less tense, the mind less dark, the body lighter, sleep has a chance to return, and the patient rediscovers the ability to feel joy.
Hypnotherapy, self-hypnosis, and positive emotion
In the course, students are introduced to methods such as hypnosis, self-hypnosis, deep relaxation, positive suggestion, EFT, stress release, and emotion recognition. These methods aim to help students become more proactive with their mind-body state.
Therapeutic hypnosis is not about being controlled or losing control. In the modern understanding, hypnosis is a state of deep focus, relaxation, and increased responsiveness to suggestion when the participant voluntarily cooperates. NCCIH states that hypnosis has been studied in many contexts such as pain, irritable bowel syndrome, pre-procedure anxiety, menopausal symptoms, headaches, PTSD, and smoking cessation; the level of evidence varies by condition. (NCCIH) [https://www.nccih.nih.gov/health/hypnosis]
For someone who has experienced insomnia, stress, and depression, relaxation techniques and self-hypnosis can help calm the body, reduce tension, create a feeling of safety, build positive internal self-talk, and help the learner observe emotions rather than being completely swept away by them.
When hope returns
The most precious thing in Ms. Thu Hanh's story is the return of hope. Before the course, she had hoped many times and been disappointed. After the first day, hope was no longer just a thought. It became a feeling in her body: tears flowing, singing on the way home, her heart becoming joyful, her heart fluttering, happiness as if reopened.
In depression, one of the most painful things is the loss of the ability to feel joy. When joy returns, even just a first ray of light, the patient can begin to see life differently. They gain more motivation to sleep better, eat better, practice more consistently, reconnect with loved ones, and care for themselves.
The course not only gave her an emotional experience but also helped her regain the belief that she could recover, could live joyfully, could be happy, and could move forward.
Excerpt from Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hanh's reflection
"Before participating in this course, I had suffered from insomnia and depression for six years."
"I sought treatment in many places, including Bien Hoa Psychiatric Hospital."
"Every time I went somewhere for treatment, I carried the hope that I would recover, but then I was disappointed and let down."
"I called witnesses who had been treated by Teacher Quan and also people who had attended Teacher's courses... The number of people I asked was truly no less than thirty or forty."
"After the first day sitting in Teacher Quan's class, on the way home driving my motorbike, it was already very dark. But on the way home, tears spontaneously flowed from my eyes and I felt very happy."
"I drove and sang at the same time."
"I felt the happiness inside me bursting forth, bursting forth in tears."
"The course has ended, and I have felt and known that my life, my happiness has truly been reborn."
"I truly thank and am grateful to Teacher."
From a course to a long journey of self-care
A course can be a starting point, but the recovery journey requires continuation. Learners need to practice the guided methods regularly: deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, EFT, positive suggestion, emotion observation, sleep regulation, and nurturing a healthier living environment.
For prolonged depression and insomnia, recovery usually does not come from a single factor alone. It may require a combination of professional support, family, sleep, nutrition, gentle movement, psychological therapy, medication when needed, a positive community, and safe mind-body methods.
The important thing is that the learner is no longer completely passive. When they know how to bring themselves into a relaxed state, recognize stress, use positive self-talk, and create an internal feeling of safety, they gain additional tools to accompany themselves every day.
Words of gratitude
Ms. Thu Hanh ended her sharing with deep gratitude to Teacher Nguyen Manh Quan. For her, the course brought about a transformation difficult to express in words: from prolonged insomnia and depression to feelings of joy, happiness, and rebirth.
That gratitude is not only for a teacher but also for the moment she found herself again. After many years of fatigue and disappointment, she could again feel the light inside, feel her heart, feel her life.
Scientific and safety note
The content of this article is the personal reflection of a student after the course. Results may vary depending on the individual, health condition, severity of depression, cause of insomnia, medical history, ability to practice, living environment, and post-course maintenance.
Methods such as hypnosis, self-hypnosis, EFT, deep relaxation, positive suggestion, and stress release should be understood as tools to support mind-body health. They do not replace diagnosis, medication, psychological therapy, psychiatric treatment, or emergency care when necessary.
People with severe depression, suicidal thoughts, severe insomnia, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, psychotic disorders, exhaustion, or inability to function normally need support from a psychiatrist or mental health professional. When having thoughts of self-harm or in an emergency crisis, contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately.
